Homemade Cough Syrup Recipe

Homemade cough syrup I’ve learned from some of the long time generation mountain residents I wanted to share with you all. These ingredients are powerful!!

METHOD

I just use a small jar. Cut up onion in small pieces to about 3/4 full in jar….pour honey in until it just covers onion.

If honey is thick warm it till it runs easier. Add a pressed garlic clove, 1 tsp turmeric and dash of pepper….mix with wooden spoon…I used wood end of a spatula. Just don’t use metal as it has effects with honey.

Put in dark cool cabinet 24 hrs to ferment..or like I’m going to do tonight after 30 minutes is take a tsp off the top as my throat is sore and getting congested.

After 48 hrs you can strain and press contents into honey or just leave it. Store away from heat, cold, and direct light…Natural and cheap syrup that works.

    • I’ve done this every year for the last 5-6 years. It keeps just fine in my cupboard. As long we you don’t introduce any bacteria into it, it will be fine.

You refrigerate this or does you leave it in the cupboard? And how long is it? Good for in each place?

one pressed clove, about 1/2-1 tsp garlic. You can use as much as you’d like.
