Sourdough Waffles Recipe

These delicious Sourdough Waffles are such a treat that can be enjoyed for either breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner any day of the week.  

Made with unfed sourdough starterthey are delicious way to use sourdough starter discard.

Bonus! This is not just one of the best waffle recipes because it tastes so good, it can also double as pancake batter! No need to get overwhelmed with recipes.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • ▢ 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ▢ 2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ▢ 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ▢ ½ teaspoon Sea Salt
  • ▢ 3 Tablespoon Sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • ▢ ½ cup Sourdough Starter Discard unfed
  • ▢ 2 large Eggs
  • ▢ 2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ▢ 4 Tablespoon Melted Butter unsalted butter, cooled
  • ▢ 1 ½ cups Water

Instructions

  • Start with your dry ingredients first.
  • In a medium bowl add all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and then combine.
  • Next, in a large bowl add your cooled butter, vanilla, sourdough starter discard, water, and combine the wet ingredients.
  • Add your wet ingredients to your flour mixture and then combine.
  • Heat your waffle iron
  • Use your 1/4 measuring cup to add your sourdough waffle batter to your waffle iron.
  • Cook for approximately 2 minutes until golden brown (1 to 3 minutes depending on your waffle iron)
  • Repeat the process until the remaining batter is gone and all 6 waffles are made
  • Serve with syrup.

Notes

Optional toppings can be powdered sugar, whipped cream, cinnamon and sugar mixture, nuts. The sky’s the limit here.

Looking for additional health benefits of fermentation, then allow the batter to sit in the fridge overnight. 

Want a bit more of the sour flavor, leaving the batter overnight in the fridge will add in more of the sour flavor to your sourdough waffles mixture

You will not need to leave the batter overnight in the fridge in order to have a sourdough taste the waffles will be delicious either way.

The batter can stay in the fridge for up to 2 days. Just be sure to stir it once per day. This is a living dough so you will want to mix it to make sure it is happy.
