Sweet Onion Casserole with Crispy Topping is a unique side dish.
Overlooked as a vegetable, onions are often added to dishes rather than being the star of the dish.
This easy Thanksgiving side takes onions and turns them into the ultimate dish. One that’s full of flavor and goes with everything!
Everyone always has onions in the pantry or fridge, yet they are often chopped and added to other dishes. I do it myself, so many mid-week meals start with chopped onions. And for good reason, onions add a lot of flavor to dishes.
Ingredients
°A quarter cup of uncooked basmati rice
°5 cups of water
°Half a cup of butter
°3 pounds sweet onion, coarsely chopped
°1 cup of cream and half of cream
°1 teaspoon of salt
°2 c Swiss cheese, divided
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). 2 liter baking dish butter.
Boil water in a saucepan also sprinkle the rice. Stir, reduce heat, and let the rice cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain rice and set apart.
Melting butter in a large skillet on heat, and cook and stirring onion until translucent but not brown, about 8 mn. Combine cooked onion and butter in skillet with rice; Stir in half-and-half, salt, and 1 3/4 cups of Swiss cheese. Transfering mix to prepared baking dish, also sprinkling remaining 1/4 c Swiss cheese over top.
Baking in preheated oven until rice is tender also browned, about 1 hour.
Enjoy !
